Striped Socks
Measurements
(Woman’s and Man’s sizes)
Length: 10½, 11½ inches
Length of foot: 9½, 10½ inches.
Materials
main shade: 4, 5 balls
contrast: oddments
From the date of the pattern it is assumed these are 1oz. balls.
Socks have a reinforced slipstitch heel.
The pattern has the printed price “1/- (5p)” which dates it to shortly before 1971 when the currency changed.
In the late 1960s there were not yet many patterns for socks in DK yarn, as hill-walking was not yet such a hugely popular pastime as it is today. These socks were probably intended mainly for workers such as farmers, construction workers and fishermen.
