These warm winter socks are perfect to wear in snow boots for hiking, shoveling snow, or as work socks. In addition, they knit up very quickly in worsted yarn. While this is a simple, easy ribbed pattern it has a few nuances to hold your interest, like a twisted ribbing cuff and an eye of partridge cushioned heel. These socks are also great to wear around the house in winter in slippers or slides.

A sturdy yarn, whether wool or cotton, can benefit as a nylon blend especially for heels and toes in boot socks or in the main colour when worn in slides. Having contrasting stripes is a fun tradition that isn’t required, but the pattern does indicate when to change colours.

The pattern is written for two circular needles or the magic loop technique but markers can be used to adjust for DPNs. There are six sizes ranging from women’s small to men’s extra large. In addition, the pattern includes two charts, one for measuring the recipient’s feet and another to demonstrate the parts of a sock. Detailed photos of heels and toes are included, as well as the finished sock.
