Simple to knit for babies and children (up to age 10 approximately). Instructions are included to knit flat (side to side) with a seam to sew up at the end or in the round for a seamless hat. The hat is made using DK weight yarn so is a quick knit for a fun hat for the festive season. The hat can be finished with a tail to be knotted or the tail can be omitted and a pom pom added instead. Either way, a very cute little hat!

Sizes

Babies 0-6 (6-12, 12-24, 24-36) months; Children 4-6, 7-10 years

Actual finished circumference: 34(36, 39, 41,)(46, 51)cm/13½(14, 15½, 16)(18, 20) inches

These sizes are the “unstretched” sizes – the hat will fit average size heads in the age range.

Yarn
Any double knitting/8ply weight yarn, subject to achieving the correct gauge. I strongly recommend you knit a gauge swatch to end up with the right size hat! I used Debbie Bliss Rialto DK (105m/115yds per 5og) for my sample.

Quantity: 1 x 50g ball of each colour - Colour 1 (C1) for ribbing and knotted tail; Colours 2 and 3 (C2 and C3) for stripes

Suggested needles: 3.25 (US3) and 4mm (US6) single point needles (for knitting flat); or the same size DPN or circular needles for knitting in the round

Stitch markers (optional) - you can use small pieces of scrap yarn tied into loops for this

Optional: Pom pom maker about 6.5cm/2.5 inches
