These relatively simple, two-at-a-time toe-up socks display a simple unisex geometric stair-step pattern that complements a gradient or self-striping yarn extremely well. The stair-steps are topped off with a spunky spiral pattern and a stretchy ribbing.

This pattern is suitable for new sock knitters and experts alike.

This pattern describes how to knit the socks two at a time on a single 40” circular needle, toe up, with a placeholder for the heel which will be added as an “afterthought” once the main sock is done, creating a neat striping contrast.

Although the pattern is written as anklets, the repeating motifs are very easy to extend into a longer sock. This pattern is also very easy to resize for a smaller or larger circumference.

Although I’m hoping you’ll give the “two at a time” technique a chance, I’ve also provided one-at-a-time DPN instructions or modifications as needed at the end of each section for convenience.

This pattern as written uses about half of a 100g skein of fingering weight yarn, depending on the length of your foot. If you are using a yarn that comes in 50g balls, I recommend purchasing two just to avoid playing yarn chicken!
