Stripy Twist Cowl
I designed this pattern to showcase the beautiful colours of Woolly Chic’s range of DK yarns, and I had fun putting the different colour combinations together. Which combination will you choose? The pattern is written to use 3 colours, but go wild with your own colour choice!
This cowl is worked seamlessly in the round. Slipped stitches are used to break up the stripe pattern. These slipped stitches are worked with a twist to create the diagonal pops of colour and texture.
The pattern has been fully tech edited and tested.
Techniques Used:
I used the Magic Loop technique on long circular needles, but you could shorter circular needles, or whatever is your preference for knitting in the round.
The pattern uses a cable cast on, a stretchy cast off, and a ‘twisted slip stitch’. To stop the ‘step’ that you get when knitting stripes in the round, the pattern use the ‘Jogless Stripe’ technique when changing colours. Full instructions for these techniques are provided in the pattern.
If you can knit and purl in the round, then you should be able to tackle this project with ease.
Yarn:
Recommended yarn: Any Woolly Chic DK yarn.
The samples shown in the photos use (1) Woolly Chic Pembrokeshire DK Yarn 80% Wool / 20% Alpaca in Aquamarine, Natural and Denim Blue, and (2) Woolly Chic Pembrokeshire DK Yarn 80% Wool / 20% Alpaca in Natural and Denim Blue, and Woolly Chic 50% Wensleydale / 50% Pembrokeshire DK Wool in Fern Green, and used 18-21g of each colour.
25g (approx. 55m / 60 yards) in each of 3 colours is sufficient to knit this cowl.
Additional Materials:
4.5mm / US 7 and 5mm / US 8 circular needles (40cm / 16 inch, or longer if using Magic Loop) or size needed to get gauge.
Yarn needle for weaving in ends.
Stitch marker.
Size:
One size. Finished circumference: 53 cm / 21 inches. Finished depth: 22 cm / 8.5 inches.
Thank you to Woolly Chic for yarn support, Jacqui Goulbourn for Technical Editing, and Helen and Alessandra for testing the pattern and providing valuable feedback!
I hope you enjoy knitting and wearing this cowl!
