Strobilus Cowl
This pattern is for a colorwork cowl, which is knit in the round using circular needles.
This is a great colorwork pattern for beginners! Only two colors are used at one time, the repeat is simple to memorize, and there is never more than a five (5) stitch float.
Named for the scientific word for the cone of a pine fir, Strobilus, this colorwork knit design is inspired by nature. The top of the cowl resembles the structure of the cone of a conifer or flower of a hop, and continues into pine tree seeds, signifying growth. The lower edge motif references the stoic pine trees and mountains of the beautiful Pacific Northwest.
Pattern uses two (2) colors of DK weight yarn in approximate yardage shown:
• MC: 200 yards (100 g)
• CC1: 100 yards (50 g)
Sample knit in Cedar House Yarns Yearling DK in colors Fox (brown), and Straw (off-white).
The colorwork chart is available in standard and inverted, to assist with the knitter choosing their own color contrasts and help with low vision knitting.
