Stroopwafels and coffee
For warming up in winter nothing beats the delicious treat of a syrupy stroopwafel sat on top of a cup of hot coffee to go warm and gooey. The waffle texture achieved by the stitches in this pattern reminded me of the tasty biscuit, and the colours used for the sample of combining it with a hot coffee (or cocoa if you prefer) – ultimate winter warmth! This pattern gives an opportunity to practise your Tunisian crochet skills with increases, decreases and colour changes. The cowl is worked on the bias, with two or more colours, to create a cosy accessory.
Yarn:
DK weight yarn, 220 m per 100 g
MC -- 20 g
CC - 20 g
Approximately 10 g per stripe.
Shown in:
Middle Campscott Farm 100% Pure Organic Shetland wool; DK; 100% wool; 110 m / 119 yds per 50 g; colours – MC: moorit, CC: fawn.
Hook: 8.0 mm / L-11 Tunisian crochet hook, or size to achieve gauge.
Notions: Tapestry needle for weaving in ends and sewing up.
Skills: Foundation row, Tunisian Simple Stitch, increasing, changing colours, decreasing, blocking, seaming, weaving in ends.
Gauge: 11 stitches and 11 rows over 10 cm / 4” in Tunisian Simple Stitch after blocking.
Gauge is not critical for this project, but different gauges will affect the finished size and yarn required. Aim for a flexible fabric without too much rolling.
Sizing: The cowl has a circumference of 56 cm / 22 ½” and a depth of 12 cm / 4 ¾”. Each stripe adds approximately 17 cm / 6 ¾” to the cowl circumference. If resizing with two colours you will need to add stripes in a multiple of two.
