Struan's brother's hat
Struan and his brother Andrew are fraternal twins, similar but not identical, so they needed hats on the same theme. The patterning on the two hats is the same, but one is created using a textured stitch pattern and the other using stranded colourwork.
In five sizes from Baby (14” hat circumference) up to Large Adult (22” hat circumference), Struan’s Brother’s Hat has a stranded colourwork pattern worked in stocking stitch in the round. A maximum of two colours are used per round. Pattern tension is 22 stitches and 28 rows over 4 inches (10cm) using DK yarn and 4mm (US 6) needles measured over the stranded colourwork. It is wise to check your tension to ensure correct sizing and yardage needs. All sizes refer to the circumference of the unstretched hat. Allow around 2” (5cm) negative ease for each size.
If using three colours as pictured, you will need up to 80 yards of Colour 1, and up to 45 yards each of Colours 2 and 3. This pattern is ideal for using up small amounts of yarn in your stash.
You need to be able to work stranded colourwork in the round, and work basic decreases.
