On a recent trip to the Scottish Highlands, my husband and I hiked to the lookout at the top of Struie Hill. Bordered by rolling slopes of purple heather and feathery ferns, the rocky path led to a breathtaking view of Dornoch Firth. This headband, part of my Struie Hill pattern collection, reminds me of that wonderful view: the winding path, the purple sides of Struie Hill, and the jewel-like waters of Dornoch Firth, home to salmon, seals, and even dolphins!
The body of this headband is worked flat and consists of only one repeating pattern that is bordered by garter stitch on either side. The short ends of the resulting rectangle are sewn together to form the headband and a small garter tab covers the seam. Finally, a button is added to finish off the look and to anchor the garter tab over the headband seam. I alternated colors every two rows, but the pattern is written for one color. This is a great mix-n-match project to use up your leftovers and is easily adaptable – just add or subtract reps to change the size!
