Santa should come for EVERYONE!

Once upon a time, I made Melanie Falick’s stockings (you know, the ones in Handmade Holidays) for the humans in the house and didn’t want the cats to feel left out. I lost my handwritten notes for the cat stockings almost immediately, so five years later I’ve had to reverse engineer a stocking for the new (to us) dog. This time I put my notes in the computer and published them so that I will never lose them again.

These are a pretty quick knit in a bulky yarn - I made two (one for the dog, one to check my work) and wrote up the pattern yesterday. You’ll need about 10 yards of an accent color for the pretty picot cuff and another 30 yards for the main body of the stocking. You’ll also need double pointed needles (US5), a cable needle (or extra DPN) and the ability to kitchener (graft), decrease, and YO. The cables are low key and shouldn’t give you any trouble even if you haven’t worked with them before - there will be a video on my techniques page to walk you through it as soon as I make one (try youtube for now). This pattern assumes a basic knowledge of sock construction!

Made to gauge, stockings come out about 7.5” measured on the diagonal from the back of the cuff to the toe. A generous size for a cat. Or perfect for a gift card!

Merry Christmas, knitters! It’s the 11th hour for your gift this year, but I just couldn’t let you go away empty handed.

This stocking has been tested by the QueenofSheba. (the Ravelry user, not Solomon’s good friend so the knitting techniques are up to date)
