Suainte means entwined in Scottish Gaelic and I love how this pattern twists and joins together, then separates and joins with another strand before coming together again. Suainte doesn’t use cables, instead wrapped stitches give a trellis-like appearance. The twisted rib gives the mitts a very snug and neat fit and the pattern comes with two sizes. These mitts are perfect for showing off those special one of a kind skeins to the best advantage.

The pattern includes both charts for the cables and written instructions, so however you like to read your patterns, you’re covered! The pattern also includes a photo tutorial for a super stretchy cast on called the Estonian cast-on for the bottom of the glove and the backward loop cast-on. The pattern has been tech edited and test knitted. There’s a screenshot of the pattern, and a list of the stitches used at the bottom of the photos. These additional techniques are used: picking up stitches.

The sample is a small mitt, worn on a 7” hand with 1.5” of negative ease. 

Materials

• 210 (265) m (230 (290) yds) of Old Maiden Aunt MCN (80% Merino, 10% Nylon, 10% Cashmere, 380 yds/100g) in Jaded
• 2.5 mm (US 1.5) circular needles, 80 cm (32”) or longer or DPNs or size needed to get gauge
• 4 stitch markers (per mitt)
• Yarn needle for sewing in ends

Gauge

56 stitches and 48 rounds in 10 cm (4”) in (unstretched) twisted rib in the round.
Gauge is measured after washing.

Finished Size

Small: 14cm (5.5”) circumference
Large: 16.5cm (6.5”) circumference

The mitts are designed to be worn with up to 6 cm (2.5”) of negative ease.
