DESCRIPTION
Morning light streams through the window as you pick up your crochet hook and the soft, cloudlike mohair yarn. Today’s mission? Continuing your journey through the Subnivean Shawl—a luscious, oversized rectangle of beauty that’s equal parts cozy and ethereal. You run your fingers over the stitches you’ve already created, marveling at how the fluffy, flowery texture blooms like tiny winter blossoms on snow.

This pattern is carefully crafted for both meditative simplicity and rewarding intricacy. The easy-to-memorize 4-row repeat uses a modified jasmine stitch pattern which is illustrated through more than 30 step-by-step tutorial photos you can reference as you work.

Before you know it, rows of delicate stitches will come together under your hands, the floral motif growing rhythmically with each loop. The mohair’s airy touch makes the process even more magical, like crocheting with whispers of mist…

FINISHED MEASUREMENTS
Measurements after blocking:
Width: 18.75 inches or 48 cm
Length excluding fringe: 78.75 inches or 200 cm

DIFFICULTY
Intermediate

MATERIALS
• Yarn: For the Subnivean Shawl, consider airy, lightweight fibers like mohair, brushed alpaca, or suri alpaca for a soft halo effect. Silk blends add luxurious drape and sheen, while merino wool offers warmth with smooth texture. You can also hold a fingering weight together with a strand of mohair to achieve a similar result! Vegan options include brushed cotton or plant-based viscose for softness and sustainability. Experiment for your perfect match!
• Shown in: Hobbii Mohair Delight (50% mohair, 50% acrylic; 164 yds / 150 m per 50 g ball) in “Ecru”. This yarn is classified as worsted; however, if you’re using a different yarn without the halo of the mohair, I suggest using a sport or DK weight yarn for best results.
• Hooks: 4.0 mm hk or size needed to obtain gauge. I’m a tight crocheter, so you may have to go down in hook size.
• Notions: Scissors, darning needle, 8 stitch markers, blocking mats and pins.

YARDAGE
The approximate yardage is:
10 skeins of Hobbii Mohair Delight or 1640 yds / 1500 m (including fringe).
If your yarn or gauge is different, your yardage may vary.
