Suffragette 1909
Suffragette 1909 represents the brave women who fought women’s suffrage at the dawn of the women’s right movement. Her dress is white to symbolize purity of purpose, and sports a fashionable (for the time) pigeon-breasted silhouette, along with a sturdy hem for hours marching in parades, or handing out leaflets in the street. Her practical straw hat and side-button boots keep her ready for the long fight, while her purple sash proclaims her goal: VOTES.
Suffragette 1909 is knit on size 6 needles with occasional touches from a size E crochet hook and fits an 18 inch doll. She uses about a skein of white Caron Simply Soft, with small amounts of lavender-blue, black, and off-white. The construction of each piece is largely seamless. A button closure in the back allows you favorite young suffragette to dress and undress the doll.
Suffragette 1909 was designed using an 18 inch Creatology “Modern Girls” doll available at Michael’s Craft Stores, and is displayed here on an 18 inch Springfield doll available at Joann’s and Hobby Lobby.
