Meet the Sugar Plum Blouse!

This 1930s style evening blouse is sure to turn all the heads in your direction this holiday season. Inspired by one of my favorite productions on earth, The Nutcracker ballet, this blouse is meant to evoke both whimsy and sophistication, just like the lovely Sugar Plum Fairy.

This garment is knit in three different directions, and does not have set in sleeves! Instead, these sweet flower petal sleeves are picked up around the armhole, and worked from the top of the sleeve cap towards the cuff in a “turning the heel” style. That’s how they can obtain that lovely pointed shape at the bottom! The flower bud stitch at the center also includes links to a video tutorial on how to create the stitch.

This project requires yarn to be held double, as the main body and waist ties are knit with yarn doubled, and the sleeves are knit with yarn held single. However, you could get creative with your yarn choices and could do a DK weight and a strand of mohair silk, or a strand of sport / fingering weight and a novelty yarn!
