When the sap starts running and the days start getting noticeably longer, it’s time to get out and enjoy late winter--in a warm, cozy headband, of course!.

Sugar Run is named in honor of maple sugaring season which usually begins here in Upstate New York in the latter part of February, which is just about the time I designed this little headband. Lots of “cable-y” goodness keeps the knitting interesting and adds visual appeal. Three-stitch braided cables on each side highlight the large alternating cable in the center.

The headband is grafted using Kitchener stitch. Don’t let this intimidate you. Really!!

This pattern has been professionally tech edited and test knit to reduce the potential for error.

CONSTRUCTION

The headband is provisionally cast on and then worked flat. It is finished by joining the two ends with a Kitchener graft.

REQUIRED SKILLS

• Knit and purl stitches
• Cable stitches - 1/1 LC, 1/1 RC, 2/2 LC, 2/2 RC
• Provisional cast-on
• Kitchener grafting - top to bottom

The pattern is fully charted, but also includes complete written directions so the ability to read a chart is not necessary to work this pattern.

YARN NOTES

Avoid highly variegated and/or excessively fuzzy yarn as it will obscure the cable pattern.

50” (127 cm) scrap contrasting color worsted yarn (for provisional cast-on)
