Fun crochet sugar skulls that can be made with beads or without. The pattern works with just about any size yarn or thread. The photos show examples made with different types of yarn! Perfect to use as appliques, key chains or jewelry.

You can use any thread or yarn- I used Tahki Cotton Classic for the DK weight and Catania SMC for the fingering weight examples. I used Sugar N’ Cream cotton yarn for the worsted weight example. You can also use Aunt Lydia’s size 3 crochet thread. Hook size is 2.75mm crochet hook for the DK weight, fingering weight, or size 3 crochet thread and size 3.25mm crochet hook for the worsted weight yarn. If you are using a lighter yarn or thread and want to add some beads to your sugar skull then you’ll need 26 size 6/0 seed beads. Tapestry needle, craft glue and scissors also needed. Applique size will depend on the type of yarn or thread used. The DK weight, fingering weight and size 3 crochet thread skulls are about 1 1/2 to 1 3/4 inches in diameter and the worsted weight skulls measure about 2 inches in diameter.
