sumburgh head
Inspired by one of the best places to spot Shetland’s summer visitors, Sumburgh head is a hat that features the headland and lighthouse at Sumburgh as well as a puffin (of course!) There are options for two sizes, a double or single thickness ribbed brim, and a pompom on top. The colourwork is knit in two colours only with the accent details duplicate stitched on afterwards.
materials
4ply/jumperweight yarn - something woolly works best
MC: 170-200m | CC: 90-115m | AC: 10-20m (+ extra for a pompom!)
sample is made in Jamieson & Smith 2ply jumperweight
(MC light grey, CC black, AC copper)
sizing/gauge
approx 28 st and 32 rows per 10cm in colourwork
medium adult to fit a 56cm/22” (large adult to fit a 63cm/25”) head circumference
If you like a particularly long hat (either for slouch or because of your head size) there is advice given on lengthening the hat in the modifications section.
