Summer 2018 Shawl KAL
Please join us this summer for the annual Summer Shawl KAL designed by J. L. Fleckenstein and sponsored by Lucky Violet Color Co. This year’s design is an easy and breezy oversized shawl meant to be a fun and relaxing knitting project to inspire dreams of summer fun and vacations.
The pattern has been fully tested and tech edited.
Prizes will be awarded during this KAL -- scroll down to see details.
We curated some lovely vacation themed palettes of color for you to choose from featuring some of our exclusive new spring and summer colorways. All are available on a broad range of yarn bases so that you can get exactly what you want (we dye everything to order, so you won’t ever have to be disappointed that something is “sold out”). Be sure to order your yarn by about mid-May 2018 to give us plenty of time to get your custom colors or palette dyed, painted, and shipped out prior to the July 1, 2018 KAL start date.
The palettes you see on this page are only a sampling, be sure to browse the complete fine artist curated collection --> here.
The KAL is being hosted in the Fleckenstein and Friends Ravelry Group, beginning with this thread: Summer 2018 Shawl KAL Discussion **** as the starting point.
For this pattern you will be able to use whatever size needles make you happy — the pattern is designed to be knit either open and airy or close and cozy … or anything in between. Your choice.
If you opt to knit on a good sized needle (like a U.S. 8, 9, or 10) you will be able to make a very generously sized wrap. Or, if you use a smaller size like a U.S. 4, 5, or 6) you will be able to make a cozy wrap that is also nice and large — although you can knit it as far as you like and make it as large or small as you wish.
This pattern is designed also to be worked by somewhat new knitters or those who are experienced — everybody gets to win with this pattern.
Yarn requirements will be 800 to 1200 yards fingering weight yarn in three colors or more, or twice that much if using lace weight held two strands together. You can use more yardage than that if you want to go really large, it is up to you.
Prize Announcement #1: Each person who starts a project page for the KAL will be entered into a drawing to win a beautiful white brass shawl pin with a mountain sheep’s head design -- very pretty and unique. To enter the contest: 1) download the pattern from Lucky Violet Color Co., and 2) start a project page prior to midnight Eastern U.S. time on July 1, 2018. Drawing will occur on July 14th with winner announced in the Fleckenstein and Friends Ravelry group that day.
Prize Announcement #2: 1) Visit the Fleckenstein & Friends Ravelry group, replying to the “The vacation I always dream of …” thread, and 2) Share something about your dream vacation (even if you have already achieved it), and 3) create a link to the Summer 2018 Shawl KAL as a part of your post. Each person who does will be entered to win a 5-yard length of 1” wide silk ribbon hand dyed/painted by a Lucky Violet Color Co. fine artist. We love to use these silk ribbons to embellish our hand knit items, and think you will too. You have until midnight July 4, 2018 to post your story. Drawing will occur on July 14th with winner announced in the Fleckenstein and Friends Ravelry group that day. Good luck! Here is the link you will need to include in your posting:
