During this past summer I found myself regularly reaching for my light down vest to throw on foggy days. When I realized that it was the same “go to” piece that I wear all winter long, I wondered why I had never designed or knit a vest! So I set out to do just that.

I designed summer fog to be the perfect layering piece for the cool nights at my summer house in Maine or the chilly winter days in my studio in New Jersey. I wanted just the right amount of ease, classic lines, my favorite textured pattern and, of course, a pocket for my phone. Finally I picked a simply stunning hand-dyed DK weight yarn from Eden Cottage Yarns. The result is a vest which I have worn more that any other since piece I have knit.

GAUGE
23 sts and 35 rows = 4”/ 10cm on larger needle in Broken Rib (blocked). Take time to check gauge.

NEEDLES
Sizes 5 US (3.75mm) and 6 US (4mm) 16”/40cm and 32”/80cm circular needles or sizes needed to obtain gauge

BUTTONS
5 (3/8”/12mm) buttons
CONSTRUCTION
BACK and FRONTS are worked bottom-up, then sewn together. After seams are sewn, bands are picked up and worked.
