Knit Friday Night Dishcloth in light mostly-organic cotton yarn! This is the first project for Summer Kitchen 2023. You can make this dishcloth as kitschy and bright or neutral and subdued as you want it to be. Either way, it’s a satisfying, modern take on a quick, potato-chip-style (you’ll want to make more!) project.

  • Lighter-weight yarns make a cloth which dries a little faster between uses—something that’s generally better than having a wet cloth hanging around longer.
  • Knit efficient, effective kitchen cloths to match your style and decor, whether it’s bright neon or subdued cottagecore.
  • Knitpicks Cotlin has enough color variety to re-create the contrast color gradient with multiple balls of yarn.
  • In general, the Simply Cotton Sport is lighter than the contrast color yarns I’ve used, but I kind of like the results of the slight difference between yarn weights.

Materials:

  • 1 ball each of MC and CC. As shown, MC is Knitpicks Simply Cotton Sport and CC is Knitpicks Cotlin.
  • 1 16” circular needle in US5/3.75mm, or size needed for gauge.
  • 4 removable stitch markers (technically optional)
  • One crochet hook, in size suited to yarn
  • Scrap yarn for provisional cast-on
  • Tapestry needle
  • Optional: spare 16” circular needle in size needed for gauge or one size smaller—useful for handling provisional cast-on stitches

(You can use a longer circular needle and Magic Loop if you like.)

Gauge:
Gauge is 20 sts and 42 rows over 4”/10cm of garter stitch, worked flat.

Measurements:
This cloth measures about 10.5”/27cm by 10.5”/27cm.
