Summer scarf
The herringbone stitch pattern gives a lively surface texture with lots of visual interest when worked in a solid or semi-solid colour. The results can also be stunning in a long self-striping, hand-painted or gradient yarn. An added bonus is the scalloped ends. The scarf is worked on needles larger than those normally used for the yarn in order to achieve an open fabric with good drape.
March 26, 2015 -- A rewritten version of the Summer Scarf pattern is now available. For ease of knitting and for a smoother look, the graft at the centre of the piece has been eliminated. Four stitches have been added to each row for a neat border at each side.
The update was sent twice in error.
Please note that this piece will appear wider at first than it will become after a few inches of knitting: the stitch pattern will cause the fabric to draw inwards.
The Zigzag Stripes Wrap is a larger version of this design.
