Summer Strawberry Scrunchie
Scrunchie life is back, and this pattern is the perfect little palette cleanse when you’re avoiding doing something, as I am right now. Summer strawberries are a cute addition to this super sweet bow. This design is worked in 4 individual pieces which are combined.
Sizing: XS (S, M, L, XL, 2XL) for a ponytail circumference of 2” (3”, 4”, 5”, 6”, 7”)/5 (7.5, 10, 12.5, 15, 18) cm.
Yarn: 50 – 75 yards/45 – 70 meters/12 – 17 grams of lace – sport weight yarn in main color, 25 yards/meters of contrast color.
Sample shown in Malabrigo Sock yarn colorway Water Green, Fucsia, Natural, and Patrick.
Needles: Size US 5/3.75 mm circular needles and one of a smaller size, or size needed to get a nice fabric density with preferred cable length to in the round.
I like 40”/100 cm cable for the scrunchie and 32”/80 cm for the bow.
Gauge: 6 stitches per inch/2.5 cm on larger needles. Row gauge is not important. Heck, stitch gauge isn’t massively important either. If your gauge is tighter than mine, consider bumping up a needle and conversely, down one. This isn’t the hill you need to die on.
Notions: A crochet hook and scrap yarn (optional, if using a crochet provisional cast on), a length of elastic as indicated by the chart, sewing thread and needle, tapestry needle, a large safety pin (optional), and spare circular needles.
Sample uses 5/8” double-fold elastic.
Techniques: Provisional CO, knitting in the round, 3 needle bind off, Jeny’s Surprisingly Stretchy Bind Off (optional), Judy’s Magic Cast On, Kitchener stitch, duplicate stitch and make 1.
