The tote is crafted in separate pieces that are connected later. It starts with tan-colored raffia, and the last third of the length is finished with black-colored raffia.

Materials: Approximately 220 yards (201 meters) in Coal Black and 303 yards (277 meters) in Desert Palm.

The stitch pattern is created by alternating rows of single crochet, double crochet, and crossed double crochet.

The pieces include:
Front and Back Panels: Two identical squares.
Sides: Two identical rectangles, completed in the same pattern as the front and back panels.
Bottom: Two identical rectangles, completed in single crochet (sc) stitch. These are sandwiched together with an optional plastic rectangle for extra reinforcement.
Handles: Two long rectangles, completed in sc stitch, then folded lengthwise into thirds and connected into a tube with a row of sc stitches.
The tote is assembled by connecting all pieces with a row of sc stitches using a crochet hook. The handles are attached with a tapestry needle.
