Summer Sweetheart Tank
Pricing update: I have increased my prices to more accurately represent the work that has gone into the making of my patterns. All my patterns have increased in prices, however my newer designs have increased more than my old ones, as I feel I have learned a lot over the years and the quality of my newer designs is higher. The price listed reflects what I believe is fair for the work put into the design, however I understand that the price increases may be inaccessible to some and am offering some tiered discounts for those that need them.
A “Choose What You Pay” model is available for this pattern, allowing both financial accessibility and fair pricing. The buyer may pay what they are able while still valuing the hard work invested to create this design. Use the codes below in order to pay the price listed after each. Choose whichever price works best for you!
- No Code – Full Price = $15.00 CAD
- PK10 – 10% off = $13.50 CAD
- PK20 – 20% off = $12.00 CAD
- PK30 – 30% off = $10.50 CAD
I also offer a Buy 3, Get 1 Free discount! Add any 4 of my patterns to your cart, and use the code BUY3GET1 to get the 4th pattern free! Note: the free pattern will be the lowest priced pattern.
The Summer Sweetheart Tank is a cute cropped, fitted tank with raw rolled edges, I-cord straps, and optional sweetheart neck ruching. It is knit bottom up, in the round (with a small section knit flat after the back stitches are bound off), with some waist/bust increases to create a fitted shape to suit your body. It is a size inclusive design, written in a create your own size format where you will be able to customize your tank to fit your desired measurements. This pattern includes tips and suggestions for modifying and shaping your tank.
Sizes offered:
This pattern is designed in a format that allows you to customize measurements to fit your desired size/shape. I have included formulas for calculating your required stitch/row counts and shaping!
Needles required:
3.75 mm / US 5 / UK 9 (choose a circular cord length that approximately matches your natural waist measurement)
May need other size needles to meet gauge
Gauge:
4” x 4” (10 x 10 cm) = 21 sts x 27 rounds (stockinette, worked in the round, blocked)
While the main body of this tank is knit in the round, you will be working flat for a few inches after you bind off the back stitches. I recommend also swatching flat to determine if your gauge varies drastically between flat and in the round knitting so that you can switch needle sizes if needed.
Note: if your stitch count is correct for gauge but row count is a tiny bit off, continue using this needle size, but keep in mind you will need to adjust the formula to determine length/row counts.
Yarn required:
Any DK weight yarn to match gauge
I used indie dyed yarn from The Frosted Stitch in a gorgeous blue variegated flake colourway (OOAK).
Deep Freeze DK - 75% SW Merino / 25% Nylon, 4-ply, 100g/245y
Any standard DK yarn should do, though I do recommend a plied yarn rather than a single ply as this is a fitted tank and I find plied yarn has a little more structure to it. Also less pilling!
Yardage required:
Since this is a create your own sizing format, I don’t have a specific estimate of yardage. I used just over 1 skeins (about 114 g/280 yards) for my sample. I have a 35” bust and my tank has about 15% negative ease. I am working on another sample that has about 30% negative ease. Most testers used 20-25% negative ease. The range would be 1-3 skeins of approx 245yds/100g DK weight yarn depending on your bust size and desired length. Rough calculation for a bust of ~60” and waist ~50” and length of ~13” from hem to back bind off gives about 2.8 skeins.
Testers used a range of 150-475 yards (bust range of 28”-55”). I am happy to help you calculate a rough yardage estimate before getting started!
Extra notions required:
Stitch markers (2 of any type for marking BOR and side, 6 locking markers recommended for marking the straps, plus extras to mark your increase/decrease spots if desired)
Scissors
Yarn needle
Scrap yarn/cord connectors/knit keeper cords for holding stitches and trying on work
Row counter is recommended!
