Summertime is an open work Victorian long shawl using knitted lace stitch patterns from Victorian era books written by Mrs. Jane Gaugain in 1840-1860.
The lace work is knit on both sides and is a suitable knit for moderate to advanced knitters or the adventurous beginner.
The center design features a modified Shetland bead pattern with a fern leaf gradient border. The charts are not complicated and are easily memorized after knitting a repeat or two.
A note about Victorian Shawls:
Shawls in the 1800’s were typically 2.5 to 3 meters long, and were draped across the back and over the arms or wrapped around the neck, flowing below the knee. This pattern follows that style but can be easily adjusted in both width and length should you desire a smaller or larger size.
