Sun Flare Shawl
The Sun Flare shawl is a half-circle shawl that originated in some doodles I made in my pattern notebook for a progressive geometric design. The design reminded me of sun or lens flare from a photograph catching a ray of light. The shawl design and structure emerged as I explored shapes and constructions that would work well with the motif.
This fun design incorporates twisted stitches, cables, lace and a Japanese smocked stitch called a lifted over knot stitch. Recommended bead placement is marked in the written instructions and the charts. More or fewer beads may be placed as desired.
Pattern difficulty is intermediate to advanced. The pattern is fully charted, includes full written instructions, and includes over 20 video technique demonstrations for the specialty stitches!
The shawl is worked from the center top down and is knit in 10 panels; 20 panels would form a full circle. The pattern can be modified to work more or fewer panels to the desired size.
Finished size

Any fingering or heavy lace weight yarn with good stitch definition and that blocks well should work well for this pattern.
