Sun Shower cardigan
SPECIAL OFFER: Enjoy 20% discount when you purchase this pattern, no coupon required; valid until May 14, 2023 (midnight CT).
The Sun Shower cardigan is inspired by the intermittent sunshine, clouds, and showers that herald the arrival of warm weather. It’s designed light-weight, loose-fitting and airy for a casual “ready-for-summer” feel.
Special features include French lace “shower” vignettes that look like cloud bursts alternated with a “rain” ribbing and an optional two-tone fade gradient (stripes) to suggest sunshine beyond the rain.
Construction
The Sun Shower cardigan is worked bottom up to preserve correct directionality of the “shower” lace motif. The body is worked seamless to the underarms, then fronts and back separated for the armholes and continued flat. The back shoulders are shaped with short-rows, then attached to the front shoulders with Kitchener stitch grafting or 3-needle cast-off, as preferred. The sleeves are knit circular, attached to stitches picked up along the armhole edges using a circular 3-needle cast-off method (WS) and finished with mattress stitch (RS). The “rain” ribbing motif adds interest to the hem, cuffs and borders.
