Additional info about the pattern:
Sunday Hoodie is a project that I wanted to design to explore
a new fit I had never worked with before. I’m quite satisfied with the
outcome. I found the use of this shoulder shaping in a boxy,
oversized hoodie intriguing.
Beside specifying that it is entirely knitted flat, it’s also important to note that the fit is intentionally
oversized and boxy. This means the body will be shorter compared to other standard fits, and the chest width will be/would ideally be wider than a regular fit sweater. Additionally, the shoulder is shaped with an English shoulder shaping, also known as a “drop-back shoulder,” which results in the front and back not matching.
This construction requiresthe front to be longer than the back to allow for a nice shoulder drop when seaming them together.
Knowing that this fit isn’t the most common, I aimed to provide as many detailed graphics and technical drawings as possible. You’ll find measurements for each individual piece and the final measurements of the garment once everything is sewn together.
The hoodie is constructed by picking up stitches from the neckline and knitting up the hood.
The ribbed band along the hoodie is formed by picking up stitches
along the edge, working it to twice its actual height, and then folding it inward and grafting it to the picked-up purl stitches. A drawstring will run through the folded ribbed band.
I’d love to see your work in progress so I encourage you to tag me on Instagram @rosso.cardinale and use the hashtag #sundayhoodie under your post.
