The mittens are worked from the bottom up in the round from cuff to fingertips; the socks are worked from the top down in the round from cuff to toes. The different sizes are achieved by changing needle sizes. If a smaller or larger size is desired, simply decrease or increase the needle size as required. This sock pattern uses a German heel (afterthought heel) to interrupt the colorwork knitting process as little as possible. The heel will be worked after the body of the sock has been completed.
