These socks are inspired by the beautiful freshwater sunfish (also called “pumpkinseed” fish). The top of the foot is knit in a fish scale pattern, and the sunfish tail wraps up the leg.

These socks were designed to be used with the Fish Lips Kiss Heel (FLK), available for purchase for $1 by following the link to the ravelry page. The FLK heel is a fun, easy heel, and the pattern also includes tips for making socks that look great and fit your feet well.

If you prefer not to use the FLK heel you are welcome to modify the pattern to add a heel of your choice. A free heel that would work well with this pattern is the “Double Stitch Short Row Heel”.
