Warm, bright afternoons and cool evenings with sparkling campfires, cold drinks in the hot sun, the feel of cool waves tickling your feet, endlessly long days with golden, brilliant sunsets: summer is here in all of its splendid glory. This design was inspired by the sensational beauty of summer sunsets over the waves!

The Sunmelt Shawlette is a triangle-shaped, asymmetrical shawlette that starts at one end with calming garter stitch and an eye-catching Latvian braid. The shawlette slowly grows to open up with a contrasting cabled lace section and another Latvian braid, then expands further as a lacework wave pattern finishes off the edge of the shawlette. This shawlette is great for advanced beginner or intermediate knitters. The pattern includes written instructions and a chart for the lace edging.

GAUGE
4.5 sts and 7 rows = 1 inch
Gauge is not important unless you have a limited supply of yarn.

YARN
Two contrasting fingering-weight yarns: one variegated (MC: 72g/250 yards) and one solid (CC: 50g/175 yards).
I used Color Me Happy Pure Merino Fingering (3-ply) fingering-weight yarn in “Autumn Leaves” and “Autumn Sunset.” Check out their beautiful, naturally-dyed yarns here! The original mill run for this fingering weight yarn was 100g/380 yards per skein, which is a bit thicker than typical fingering weight yarn. This pattern will work well with any fingering weight yarn.

NEEDLES
US size 4 (3.5mm) circular needles on 44”/110cm cable.

NOTIONS
A cable needle and a tapestry needle to weave in ends.

TECHNIQUES
Knitting, purling, increasing, cabled stitches, lace, Latvian braid

FINISHED DIMENSIONS
Approximately 60” (152cm) wide by 28” (71cm) tall at end after blocking.

ON REPEAT
Two songs on repeat recently: “Watermelon Sugar” by Harry Styles (because that song basically is summer) and “River of Reflection” by Niclas Lundqvist (very chill, perfect for warm summer evening relaxation!)

This pattern is free!

Wear this shawlette to the beach while watching the sun set over the water - enjoy the beauty of this season!

In memory of Asha, my constant furry feline companion, who loved the summer sun more than anyone. Remember to appreciate every moment with those you love! <3
