Sunny Day Market Bag
Difficulty: Intermediate, US terminology
Finished Size: 20 x 9 ½ inches unstretched (50 x 25cm)
Materials:
3.5mm hook/E-4(US)
150g of 8ply yarn/DK or Light Worsted, if using 4 colours I’d recommend 50g of each
o I’ve used 8ply cotton from Bendigo Woollen Mills which is thinner than acrylic and wool. If using a thicker DK yarn, I recommend a 4.0mm hook (G-6)
Scissors
Tapestry needle
Abbreviations:
ch = chain
sk = skip a stitch
sc = single crochet
fsc = foundation single crochet
dc = double crochet
dc inc = 2 double crochet in the same stitch
sl st = slip stitch
.. = repeat the sequence between the square brackets
(..) = repeat the space in brackets the given number of times
Notes:
ch2 at the start of a row counts as a dc. I chain loosely so a ch2 is sufficient as a starting dc for me, you may prefer to ch3 instead.
This pattern is not worked in the round, at the end of each row you with slip stitch to the first stitch of the same row to end the row.
I prefer not to start with a magic ring as these may come undone with use of the bag. I find it more secure to simply chain the initial row and slip stitch together.
You may choose to use multiple colours or a single colour throughout. I have included details for a multiple colour bag and photos for a single colour bag. The choice is yours!
You may also choose to extend the handles by adding addition fsc, this will result in additional sc’s in the final row and extra yarn will be required.
