Create a deeper front neck (4-5cm) without any short rows - perfect for stripes!
This simple summer shirt is worked top-down with circular yoke increases. The basic idea of this design is to create a sweater with a round yoke where the neck is a bit lower on the front side than on the back – which means that you can add any overall stripe sequence to it, without any short rows disturbing the symmetry.
This is achieved by working twice as many increases per round on the front than on the back, but only half as often – which creates different curves for the necklines on the different sides. Moreover, the front neck starts with a few stitches more, which will be compensated later. Optionally finish neck by single-crocheting around it - this way, you can lift up the back neck even more by using a smaller hook for it.
Any stripe sequence is possible. If the repeat consists of a row count which is a multiple of 6, it will be much easier to remember when to work the yoke increases.
This pattern it is perfect for using up mini skeins or leftovers.
Needles: Main needle size is 3,0mm; 2,5mm used for edges.
Gauge: 28 sts x 40 rows in Stockinette.
Approx. 800/ 900/ 1000/ 1100/ 1200 m of a (Light) Fingering weight yarn needed, a bit more than 50% of the main color (MC) 1, 25% of MC2; and the rest is divided between the 6 contrast colors (CC), 40-60m per color.
For my main sample, I have used Sandnes Tynn Line (50% cotton, 33% Rayon, 14% linen, 220m/ 50g) in colors 1015 (natural) and 6061 (blue-grey), combined with leftovers in various colors for the CC stripes.
For my 2nd sample with 2/3 sleeves (which are not desribed in the pattern, but in my project notes), I have used The Fibre Company Meadow (500m/ 100g).
