The sunset is always a magical time here on the farm and the inspiration for this brilliant wrap. Fiery golds and transcendent corals set the sky ablaze, enticing you to turn your face skyward to soak in the last warming rays of the day.  The warmth and glistening beauty of the sun are ever-present in the Sunset Shimmer Wrap.

Three-tiered tassels, elegant sparkle, and the unique triangle element make this wrap a must-have knitting pattern. Designed with two-color-per-row intarsia that will engage experienced knitters and encourage advanced beginners to try their hand with this color-block technique. Written instructions step you through the knitting, while clear diagrams and suggested yarn substitutions demonstrate how to transform this wrap to suit your preferences.

Yardages are given per triangle in case you have the perfect combination of stash yarn.  Simply choose your colors and follow the diagrams to make your unique wrap. Do you prefer the colors of the blushing dawn of sunrise with its pale pinks and grays? Or maybe you lean more toward the romantic silvery moon glow and a moody blue backdrop? There is no limit to the color combinations and inspiration for the Sunset Shimmer Wrap. Make one for every mood and occasion.

This pattern takes advantage of the yarn’s natural tendency to curl on the edges. That, along with the weight of the tassels, elongates the triangle ends and keeps the public side facing out. Can be worn as a wrap, scarf, or shawl. Intarsia knitting creates diagonal sections, sparkle yarn further enhances diagonal detail, multi-tiered tassels add some elegant whimsy, and it’s mostly just plain knitting.

Yarn Recommendations:
ewe2yarn Fingering (100% New Zealand Polwarth; 100 g 437 yd), fingering.

ewe2yarn Reflet Swirl, 5 mini skein set with Sparkle (75% Merino, 20% nylon, 5% stellina; 20 g 87 yd each mini skein for total 100 g 435 yd per set), sock.

Wrap shown in golds and corals uses 2 sets of Reflet Swirl; one with Sparkle and one without Sparkle for alternating triangles.

Wrap shown in brown and various purple tones uses 1 skein of Fingering in brown and 1 set of Reflet Swirl in purple tones.

Substitute with any sock or fingering weight wool, 822 yd in 2 to 10 different colors to make the intarsia knitting stand out. Each triangle requires approximately 75 yd (total of 750 yd). Each Tassel requires approximately 12 yd per tier (total of 72 yd).

22 sts and 24 rows = 4 in (10 cm) square in stockinette stitch with U.S. 7 (4.5 mm) needle, blocked.

Adjust needle size to obtain gauge. This will ensure you have enough yarn to complete the wrap and tassels. Depending on your yardage of the swatch yarn, you may have to unravel the gauge swatch if you want to use this color in a tassel.
