Sunshine on the Path
Three times each day during spring and summer, I leave the farm and take to the forest path. Together with my flock of Grå Trønder sheep, we follow along the pathway and climb the mountain. We walk deeper and deeper into the forest until we reach the forest glade, where my little flock frolics and grazes among the forest trees.
«Sunshine on the Path - A traditional farm Hap from Trøndelag» was inspired by these evening trips that we take along the path and the endless hours of daylight and golden sunshine we experience during this time of year.
It is also a nod to the many colourful wildflowers growing here on the mountain, in the fields and along in the ditches near the farm.
The design of this Hap is rooted in the traditions and history of this region of Norway, in which I call home - Trøndelag.
It includes a Trondheim Rose lace motif, which I have modified to reflect and complement the traditional folk costume of this area - the Trønder Bunad. This local bunad was inspired by 17th century fashion and was established within this region in the 1920s.
The Hap is a uniquely shaped, isosceles trapazoid. It has an extra-large wingspan to drape beautifully around the shoulders and down the body - accenting the neckline. The perfect feature when wearing a traditional Norwegian folk costume or walking along the path at midnight picking wildflowers.
Because of its symmetry, it can also be folded to create the perfect cozy scarf on blustery days.
A mindless, comfort to knit, which I hope you will enjoy.
Thank you for joining me along on the forest path.
Please note:
This pattern has been professionally tech editied and knit for clarity. It is in written form, row by row and is fully charted.
Planning your project:
You will need 4 OR 5 balls of Rauma PT 2 garn (see notes below), (for a total of 200 or 250 grams and 700 to 875 meters). The hap was designed and knit with Colour 4125.
You can purchase the original 100% Norwegian wool used for the Hap as a yarn kit and have a look at all of my handmade knitting accessories within my little farm shop:

Please note: I designed this Hap to use ALL of the four balls of yarn. I only had 4 grams of yarn when I bound off the Hap. Depending on your own personal gauge and knitting style, you might need to plan for a few additional grams of yarn to complete the Hap.
This hap was designed to use only 100% pure wool.
