Most little girls like ruffles. This dress has ruffles at hemline and around the armholes. It was conceived of as a summer dress, but actually it could be worn through three seasons, if combined with a short or long sleeved shirt and tights or leggings. Also since little ones grown tall so fast, there is no waistline. Leggings can be worn with the dress, turned tunic, as your little princess grows taller.

The dress has a placket on the back of the dress. Buttons are visible but they are just for decoration. The placket is actually closed by snaps. Buttonholes are not my favorite thing in knitting, so I avoid them when possible. Snaps sometimes work better for children’s clothes, especially small children. If you like to work, or do not mind making buttonholes, then by all means, substitute buttonholes on the right side of the placket instead of the snaps.

This dress was fun to knit. Even using the small needles with the Bamboo Pop, it did not take long to make. The directions may seem a little wordy, but I wanted to make sure the instructions were clear.

Many thanks to Krista, the owner of Yarn and Y’all in Greenville, SC, who graciously loaned the cloth mannequin for some of the pictures.
