Super Easy Socks
Errata: When doing the toe decreases, on the Kitchener stitch directions, you will want to decrease to a total of 16 stitches, 8 on the instep and 8 on the sole.
This is a very simple sock pattern designed with the beginner in mind. It can be knit in plain stockinette, or for the more enthusiastic beginner, there are directions for a ribbed sock and a lace sock as well. The sock is knit out of worsted weight for a couple reasons. Firstly, so that it knits up quickly (compared to using fingering weight yarn), and so that it is easier to see and work with the stitches.
I designed this pattern to teach sock knitting, and I usually do it in a 3-part class. During the first class, we cast on, complete the ribbing on the cuff, and then start the leg.
During the 2nd class, we do the heel flap, heel turn, and begin the gusset decreases.
And for the last class, we finish the foot, the toe decreases, and complete the sock.
If you would like to use this pattern in your LYS to teach sock knitting, I would appreciate any feedback in anything I can change to make the pattern easy to follow. Happy knitting!
