In order to get this super-hero eye mask to stay up better than some of its stocking-stitch cohorts, it’s done in a rough moss-stitch (to the extent that you should knit on the purl and purl on the knit stitches in the next row).

Either use 1 strand of 4-ply wool or you could use 2 strands at a time of 2-ply - I had 3 colours of 2-ply wool so varied them.
