Surfer Dude Shorts
These loosely knitted oversized shorts are great
for summer time, or knitted long at a tighter gauge for classic winter jeans. They are knit in the round from the top down and have a shaped gusted through the crotch for a better fit and neat turned and sewed under cuffs and waistband. I devised this pattern for my son and left them plain, but they could easily be embellished with knee patches, side pockets or girly motifs.
The O-Wool Balance at 50% wool, 50% cotton is the perfect yarn for the surfer dude shorts because it has the cool soft comfort of cotton against the skin combined with the body of wool. And of course I love it because it is organic and the colours are lovely. I knitted mine in the slate colour which has a hint of the washed denim look that makes me think of
lazy beach days. They would be equally good in cool cotton or snug wool, and taken up to a 10ply or worsted weight for an even roomier fit.
