These socks were inspired by a favorite customer of mine who needed surgery. Operating rooms are kept cold on purpose to keep bacterial activity at a minimum. Usually, the nurses place footies on the feet of the patients but often they will permit you to bring your own socks. The requirements are that the socks be warm and loose enough so as not to restrict circulation in any way. The socks in this pattern are more like sweaters for your feet and much superior to hospital issued footies! They are only slightly fitted and it is easy for one person to put them on another if necessary. Also, they are self-lined for maximum warmth. These would be useful for any bed-ridden patient. YARN GAUGE AND MACHINE The socks may be made on a standard gauge Japanese machine with ribber or on a 5mm Passap double bed machine using Tamm Bebe yarn. Adjust the stitch dials to get 6.5 stitches/8 rows per inch in stockinette on each bed.

SIZES circumference: 8.75, 9.25, 9.75, 10.25” correspond to small ladies, larger ladies, small men, larger men. Length: 9.5, 10, 10.5, 11, 11.5 correspond to ladies shoes sizes 5-7, 8-9 men 8-9 & ladies 10-12, men 10-11, men 11-13. Length is easily adjusted to preference by adding or subtracting rows. These dimensions will fit the designated sizes loosely.
