Susquehanna Sunset Poncho
While living on the West Branch of the Susquehanna offers stunning reflections of sunset colors, reminiscent of southwestern skies, the river’s latitude ensures chilly weather much of the year. I knit this poncho with the colors that I love and used yarns that insulate against the chill without adding weight: mohair. A bonus of using this yarn is that, despite its thinness, the fuzziness allows for the use of larger needles resulting in a quick knit with rapid pattern development. It is such a rewarding feeling!
The pattern is a one size fits most, although adjustments are easily accomplished by adding cast on or reducing stitches equalling a pattern repeat and/ or adding a block. The basic measurement of the finished poncho is 56” in circumference and 20” in depth. When worn, these measurements are deceptive due to the fabric hanging in a bias direction, resulting in additional breadth and length.
