Suzanne Socks
The Suzanne Socks are a little mystical—stars align and paths converge in these intricate motifs. Worked from the top down in two colors of fingering-weight yarn, the Suzanne Socks have a stranded colorwork star-and-diamond motif on the leg, with a diamond variation around the toe. The Suzanne Socks have a heel flap and gusset construction, a textured heel flap, and a contrast heel turn for a punch of color.

Choose from four sizes and two styles--ankle and calf length; the calf-length version adds double bands of stripes on the leg for a vintage look.

Wherever these socks take you, I hope the stars align for you.

SIZES
1 (2, 3, 4)

Finished circumference (unstretched): 6½ (7½, 8½, 9½)” / 16.5 (19, 21.5, 24) cm. Designed to fit with about ½” / 1 cm negative ease.

Leg length: 3¾” / 9.5 cm (ankle length); 6” / 15 cm (calf length)

YARN
Ankle-length version
Yarn A: approx. 235 (285, 330, 375) yds / 215 (260, 300, 345) m of fingering weight yarn
Yarn B: approx. 45 (50, 60, 65) yds / 40 (45, 55, 60) m of fingering weight yarn

Calf-length version
Yarn A: approx. 240 (295, 340, 390) yds / 220 (270, 310, 355) m of fingering weight yarn
Yarn B: approx. 50 (55, 65, 70) yds / 45 (50, 60, 65) m of fingering weight yarn

Yarn estimates are based on a sock foot length of 8½ (9½, 10½, 11½)” / 22 (24, 27, 29) cm. You may need more or less yarn depending on foot length. For the best fit, knit socks ½” / 1 cm shorter than actual foot length.

Samples are shown in Size 1 ankle-length (green and pink) using Green Letter Day Sock (473 yds 430m / 100g; 75% SW Merino / 25% nylon) in Fairy Ring (yarn A) and All the Way Mae (yarn B) and Size 2 calf-length (blue and orange) using Green Letter Day Sock in Treasure Island (yarn A) and Little Lionhead Knits Fingering Weight (87 yds 80m / 20g; 85% SW Merino / 15% nylon) in Let’s Picnic (yarn B).

Note: The samples were knit with yarn B held as the dominant yarn.

GAUGE
34 sts / 40 rounds = 4” / 10 cm in stockinette and colorwork chart, after blocking
Note: Although your gauge should be the same for the stockinette and colorwork sections, most people need to go up a needle size to achieve the same gauge for the colorwork section. Two needle sizes are listed in the Needles and Notions section—one for stockinette and one for colorwork.

NEEDLES AND NOTIONS
• US Size 1 (2.25 mm) knitting needles suitable for working small circumferences in the round OR size needed to achieve gauge in stockinette
• US Size 2 (2.75 mm) knitting needles suitable for working small circumferences in the round OR size needed to achieve gauge in the colorwork chart
• Stitch markers (3, including one unique for the beginning of round), scrap yarn or stitch holder, tapestry needle
• Optional: Two US Size 1 (2.25 mm) DPNs for grafting toe stitches
Always use a needle size that will result in the correct gauge after blocking.
