Swannanoa River Tee
Classic romance meets contemporary elegance in this nearly seamless handknit reinterpretation of the humble Tee shirt. The Swannanoa River Tee features a seamless lace hem and dolman style sleeves with lace edging. The unique construction of this top allows for seamless shoulders and uninterrupted lace across the tops of the arms. The sport weight 100% linen yarn drapes beautifully for a flattering fit and wicks moisture for warm-weather comfort and performance. Paired with a skirt, jeans, shorts, or trousers, this versatile top will look stunning however you choose to style it.
Garment Construction Overview
For a nearly seamless tee, you will use a provisional cast on to cast on the lace hem, which is worked laterally around the body, then you will use a tapestry needle to graft the first row to the last row (lace grafting tutorial included with pattern!). After the lace hem is completed and joined in a ring, you will pick up and knit the body stitches from the straight selvedge edge of the lace. These stitches will be joined in the round and worked even to the underarm. The stitches on the back side of the tee will be placed on a waste yarn and held for later while the attached sleeves and neckline are worked flat. The shoulder shaping will be done with short rows, then the top of the back and back of the sleeves will be worked flat. When the sleeves are finished, you will use Kitchener stitch to graft the held stitches of the back to the most recently worked live stitches. Last, the underarms of the sleeves will be seamed together, and the neck edging will be worked.

Notes About Gauge
Linen yarn poses an interesting challenge when trying to obtain correct gauge, so I have tried to make it fool-proof for you. When new and unwashed, this yarn is very crisp, and stitches want to sit wider. But after blocking (and continuing a little more with each wash), the fabric relaxes dramatically, and the stitches narrow and elongate, giving the garment narrower and longer measurements with much more drape. For you to proceed without any doubt, I give both the unblocked gauge and the gauge obtained after the first blocking of the fabric to better assist you in finding your correct needle size.
Gauge Before Blocking: 20 sts and 31 rows = 4” in St st.
Gauge After Blocking: 24 sts and 27 rows = 4” in St st.
