Komodo is designed for all year round and for all ages. By changing the yarn and playing with the colors you can create many versions to have fun with. I crocheted it in Fingering and Worsted cotton. But there are many other versions.

The structure of this sweater is simple and easy to adapt. It is constructed of four rectangles that are crocheted from the bottom up, each one separately. Two of them make the back and front with their corresponding neckline and the other two make the sleeves.

The elastics of the collar, cuffs and waistband are crocheted lengthwise, from one side to the other, directly on the garment once it is assembled. It has a wide, loose cut and is short, ending at the waist. But you can make it longer if you want.

YARN
The two samples of this sweater were made with cotton. The sample you will see in videos and photos was made with Dk-light worsted cotton, 9-11 wpi 220m/100g. The fade sample was made with fingering cotton, 19-22 wpi, 440 m/100g. I do not recommend a thicker yarn.

The amount of yarn needed for this design depends on your own body measurements and the ease you want your garment to have.

Based on my size M samples (56 cm body back width, 50 cm length) and standard sizes measurements, if you wanted to crochet a similar sweater like mine, your yarn usage would be roughly as per below:

Dk cotton sweater: Size S: 500g / Size M:600g / Size L: 700g / Size XL: 800g.
Fingering cotton sweater: Size S: 380g / Size M: 450g / Size L: 520g / Size XL: 590g.

The hook size and the gauge swatch may vary the amount of yarn required.

You will need two different colours: one (slightly more than half the total amount of yarn needed) to make the backward rows, and the other will be used to make the forward rows, or “net”, and the neck, cuff and bottom ribbings.

The textured and airy stitches of this design will give you an infinite possibility to play with colour. It is worth taking your time to plan your colours and choose the perfect colour palette. I think it’s the most fun of the whole project! You can play with contrasts, tones, fades, mix variegated and solid colour yarns, use pastel or bright colours, choose two or twenty different colours… Look for inspiration to create new colour combinations!

HOOK
Dk sample sweater: 5.00mm
Fingering sample sweater: 3.5mm

The most suitable hook size for this project will be checked when you make the gauge swatch. I deeply recommend making gauge swatches with different hook sizes to choose the one with a better texture and drape.
