Sweet 17 Bias Scarf
A fun learning experience! This is the second thing I’ve ever tried on the new-to-me Bond Classic Knitting Machine. (Bear with me! My terminology and technique may not be great!)
My little sister turned 17 - she seemed in need of a pretty scarf for Alberta Fwinter. This is pretty simple but I hope she loves it. I picked Bernat Pop! to make for easy stripes. Another good choice would be Caron Cakes for the same reason.
I used the #4 keyplate for Aran weight (hope that was right!)
Cast on: e-wrap 3 stitches from left to right with carriage at the right.
Knit back. Hang a small weight (I used a heavy S-hook)
Increase section:
Row A (left to right): transfer the leftmost stitch over one needle to the left. Transfer the rightmost stitch one needle to the right. Make sure the empty hooks are both open and in forward working position. You should have increased 2 stitches on this row.
Row B (right to left): knit across.
Repeat rows A and B until you have 61 stitches. Add weights as needed. I hung my weighted hem a few inches below the needles as I worked by weaving a circular knitting needle through.
Straight Section:
Row C (l to r): transfer left stitch over one needle to create yarnover. Transfer the 2nd from the rightmost stitch to the last needle, then transfer both back to the empty needle. Transfer the next single stitch one needle to the left. (This will create two decreases with a yarnover between)
Row D (r to l): knit across.
Repeat rows C and D until you have approximately 1/6 of the yarn left (or until length you desire) You may need to extend the left side of your knitting machine.
Decrease section:
Row E (l to r): transfer 2nd from the left stitch over one needle to the last needle, then transfer both back to the empty needle. Transfer the next single stitch one needle to the right. (two decr with yo between)
Transfer the 2nd from the rightmost stitch to the last needle, then transfer both back to the empty needle. Transfer the next single stitch one needle to the left. (two decr with yo between)
Row F (r to l): knit across
Repeat rows E and F until you have 3 stitches, then bind off.
Block your scarf! Since I used an acrylic yarn I blocked it with steam (aka “killing” the yarn) and it drapes beautifully and doesn’t curl at all.
