Sweet As Honey Scarf
This scarf is knit on the bias, and the stitch pattern reverses sides every 13 rows. The ends flare out and slant -- this can be reduced during blocking. I love the look of a bias knit scarf, but wanted something a bit more eye-pleasing than stockinette or garter stitch. One of the features of this pattern is that it can be made for either a man or woman, depending on the yarn choice.
The pattern includes instructions for increasing the width, and it can be knitted to whatever length is desired.
Test knitters ranged from very experienced to brand new -- no one had any problems with the pattern.
The stitch pattern used is ‘Slipstitch Honeycomb’, from Barbara Walker’s ‘A Treasury of Knitting Patterns’.
Let me know if you have any problems, and please remember to link your project to the pattern -- I love looking at what people are creating with my patterns! And join my group for notices about new patterns!
From capless:
A well written pattern with clear and easy to follow directions. The bias effect with alternating textures is very pleasing visually. It took only a few hours over 2 days to complete so it’s perfect for gift-giving. The sl st p-wise creates a nice rhythm so it moves along very quickly. It looks as if a lot of work went into it but is deceptively easy to make.
This scarf looks best in a yarn that has a nice drape with good stitch definition. A solid or heathered color would be preferred to show off the sts.
Yarns Tested:
-
Pations Classic Merino: Produced a very stiff fabric with #8 & #9 needles.
-
Berroco Ultra Alpaca: Highly recommended. Excellent drape and very soft and comfortable to wear.
-
Cascade 220 Superwash: It’s easy to care for (great for gifts) and drapes nicely and becomes very soft after washing.
