Sweet Daisy Flower Crown
About this design
I am a lauhala weaver in a Hawaiian tradition. One of the most beloved things a weaver can make in Hawaii is pāpale (hats). These hats are often paired with intricate feather lei or adorned with lei of leaves and flowers. But the possibilities are endless. Since I also have a love of crochet, I wanted to make a lei for my hat that matched my whimsical style. This pattern is the result !
Method
The Sweet Daisy Flower Crown is made of lots of individual daisy motifs, which you will then string together with ribbon. There are written and charted directions for the flowers. For the assembly, written instructions with accompanying photos are provided.
Yarn & Gauge notes
This project is an awesome stash-buster. You can use any yarn and any gauge for this pattern, but I do not recommend using any yarn heavier than fingering weight. Worsted weight and bulkier will give you large, chunky-looking flowers, while finer yarns will result in dainty, fine-looking flowers. The choice is ultimately yours. Just be sure to use a crochet hook that honors the yarn, so that the work isnʻt too loose and floppy.
Necessary Materials
- fingering weight yarn
- crochet hook, 3.00 mm
- measuring tape
- 3/8” wide ribbon (or experiment with different widths !)
- 1-2 tapestry needles
