Sweet Eustace cowl
Ooh, their breath is warm
And they smell like sleep
And they say they take me home
Like poppies, heavy with seed
They take me deeper and deeper
--And Dream of Sheep by Kate Bush
This is a pattern for a cowl, worked in the round and using the stranded knitting technique. This pattern contains a complex chart with long floats. I have included an explanation of the Ladder-Back/Invisible Jacquard method. But you may tack your floats any way you like.
Stitches are cast on, rib is worked, small chart is worked, main motif chart is worked, the final rib is worked, and then all sts are bound off.
yarn:
Shetland 4ply by Gathered Sheep Yarns; Fingering; 100% Pure Shetland Wool; 233yds (213m) / 55g
approximate yarn amounts:
colour A (Raven) - 38g ; 161yds / 147m
colour B (Beach Pebbles) - 20g ; 85yds / 78m
colour C (Stone) - 9g ; 38yds / 35m
needles:
2.75mm (us no 2) circular needle 16in/40cm
3.25mm (us no 3) circular needle 16in/40cm
gauge:
27 sts x 35 rows = 4in/10cm on larger needles and over stranded stockinette
Some knitters work stranded and single-coloured at different gauges. Change needles, as needed, to keep gauge the same throughout.

You may make small adjustments to size by increasing needle size (this may affect your yarn amounts).
