Sweet Hearts Valentine Hat
Skill needed: Intermediate, cables, twisted stitches, knit in the round.
Size: 3-6 months, 6-36 months, 4-10 years, woman
(When you choose a size to knit, do not rely on age. Measure your head first before you knit.)
Actual Head Circumference: (14.5-17, 17.5-19, 19.5-20.5, 21-22) in
Finished Hat Circumference: Approx. (14.5, 15, 16, 17) in
Finished Hat Height: Approx. (6.5, 7.2, 7.2, 8.2) in
Gauge: 22 sts x 30 rows = 4” x 4” in Stocking sts with US#6 (4 mm) (Check your gauge before you knit.)
Needles: A Set of US#4 (3.5 mm) & a set of US#6 (4 mm) Double Pointed Needles, Yarn needle, 3.5 mm (E) Crochet hook
Yarn: Category 4 medium worsted weight yarn approx. (95, 110, 130, 160) yds for hat and approx. 20 yds for a pom-pom and four crochet flowers
Yarn I used in Pictures: Caron Simply Soft 100% Acrylic White #9701 and Autumn Red #9730
(You can also use any yarn or a needle size that gives you the right gauge.)
Stitches I used & Abbreviations
K = Knit
P = Purl
SSK = Slip-Slip-Knit
K2tog = Knit-two-together
P2tog = Purl-two-together
K1B = Knit-1-below
CDI (Central Double Increase) = (K1B, K1) into one stitch, then insert left-hand needle point behind the vertical strand that runs downward from between the two stitches just made, and K1B into this strand to make the third stitch of the group.
T3B (2/1 RPC) = Slip 1 sts on cable needle and hold in back, K2 from left-hand needle and then P1 from cable needle
T3F (2/1 LPC) = Slip 2 sts on cable needle and hold in front, P1 from left-hand needle and then K2 from cable needle
C4B (2/2 RC) = Slip 2 sts on cable needle and hold in back, K2 from left-hand needle and then K2 from cable needle
C4F (2/2 LC) = Slip 2 sts on cable needle and hold in front, K2 from left-hand needle and then K2 from cable needle
T4B (2/2 RPC) = Slip 2 sts on cable needle and hold in back, K2 from left-hand needle and then P2 from cable needle
T4F (2/2 LPC) = Slip 2 sts on cable needle and hold in front, P2 from left-hand needle and then K2 from cable needle
