Sweet Nothings Hat
Yummm… is that a hat, or a sundae? Get that “spring and summer” feel in winter with this delicious topper. Cables swirl up the sides like vanilla ice cream, and the sweet knitted flower brings a hint of spring into a wintry ensemble.
SKILL LEVEL: Intermediate. You should already know how to knit, purl, and make a gauge swatch. Also uses two simple embroidery stitches: Straight and French Knot, for which you can easily find explanations on the internet.
SIZES: Three sizes: Small/Child (15”-18”), Medium/Youth (18”-21”), and Large/Adult (21”-23.5”); directions for altering crown depth included in the pattern.
REQUIRES: 1 (1, 2) 100g/3.53 oz (109.7 m/120.0 yds) balls bulky-weight yarn (I used Bernat Alpaca Natural Blends in Cream); Small amounts of worsted-weight yarn for flower (I used Knit Picks Swish Worsted in Lotus, Bark, and Peapod), 6.5 mm (US 10 ½) set of five double-pointed needles OR size needed to obtain gauge; 6.5 mm (US 10 ½) 73 cm/29” circular needles (opt.); 4.0mm (US 6) straight or double-pointed needles for flower; cable needle; yarn needle; scrap of yarn for marker
